Survey Says............ [Feb. 2nd, 2008|02:29 am]
[mood | curious]

If only I could find funny signs like this in my laundry room.
I thought that might get your attention....Your help with a research project is needed and greatly appreciated!!!!!

Your Opinion Matters!

In fact, the fate of the world depends on it!

Perhaps I'm being a bit dramatic......

In this little "cry for help," I'm asking for assistance from everyone!

One of my good friends is a talented writer, and she is in need of some assistance in conducting research for a project she's working on. She's writing a story involving host clubs, and wants some input, so to speak, from us females. Basically, she needs as many of you as possible to answer a small survey.  All feedback is quite valuable in this endeavor.

As stated above, she's writing a story about host clubs. I've researched the topic on my own for a subculture for another culture study when I was getting my bachelor's degree. Thus, my own research sort of got in the way of providing an objective opinion. Those of you who know what host clubs are, I ask you somewhat disregard your common sense, and pretend you are new to the subject.

Those who are not familiar with the subject, I will provide a brief explanation.  I got most of this information from Wikipedia. Surprise!!! This time, the info is pretty much accurate. Those of you who know me are aware I get a bit long-winded, so it was easier giving an explanation this way instead of me going on and on.

What is a host club?

Before host clubs, there were hostess clubs, aka hostess bars.  Hostess bars are a commonality in Japanese night life. Likely a spin-off of the types of clubs and establishments where one would find geisha back in the day.  This ain't no strip club.  A "mama-san" runs the joint and pretty girls provide companionship to the male clientele (often salaryman), and essentially milk them for all they're worth. A hostess is one of the women that works there, and drinks and talks with customers all night long.

So, a host club basically does the same thing. The exception with host clubs is that the employees are mostly very attractive males, and they can service either male or female clientele. In this survey, we're focusing on the female clients. They became largely popular over the last decade or so. Expressing one's emotions and listening to the needs of a female partner is not a strong suit among most men, and Japanese men don't excel here either. So, it's not surprising females frequent host clubs to get someone to listen to them, have a drink with them, and spend the evening with someone attractive to boot. That what hosts are paid to do. Hosts aren't cheap, either, and the host can't take off on you. If they do, they will be seeking other employment. The female gets to pick the host they wish to have, generally from a "menu".

Please keep in mind, this entertainment is not sexual. However, if this occurs, it's on a unofficial basis, as prostitution involving straight sex is actually illegal in Japan, (on an ironic side note, gay prostitution isn't). This isn't to say it doesn't happen, but the club won't endorse it. Regular customers can sometimes contact hosts outside the club and arrange other things, but it's under the table, and usually involves the client paying said host a great deal more money than they already shell out. Spending time in a host club runs up quite a tab. That's enough for the explanation.

Bishie of the Day Version 3.0 [Jul. 10th, 2007|01:43 am]

This post was created in appreciation of all bishounen everywhere.  They can be "live action", animated, or the work of a mangaka.  Either way, this post is for them......

Bishie of the Day
Version 3.0

It seems that my Bishie of the Day Version 2.0 has become too long. and thus I have created "Version 3.0."  Please check out Version 2.0 and  Version 1.0 if you haven't seen them yet. Alas, with so many hot bishies, Version 2.0 and Version 1.0 are not enough!  I'm sure Version 3.0 won't be the last version, either.  So without further ado...

Bishies of the Day for July 10, 2007 have been added!

Enjoy Abe Hayato and Shigano Ryu of Neji no Kaiten, a yaoi manga by Sadahiro Mika!

Warning!!!!!

Since some of these pictures are rather explicit, I have decided to put the Bishies of the Day behind an lj cut for those of you that may be at work, or have individuals with "delicate" sensibilities nearby. ;-) If you are 18 or older, please proceed. If you are not, please

Cosplay Prop Help!!!! [Feb. 27th, 2007|11:55 pm]

Hi everyone!  It's that time again. It's convention season and I need a bit of help with a prop. I thought I would place a request on my livejournal, and hope someone will be able to help me out!

I am making a tokkuri for my costume. A tokkuri is a vessel for sake. The tokkuri I am making has the kanji of the word "sake" painted on it.  However, I am not versed in kanji, and suck at calligraphy. So.......I'll get to the point....

If anyone could use their calligraphy/kanji creating skills and hook me up with with the kanji for the word "sake" and make it about 5 inches tall, I will be forever grateful!!!

I will also make sure that if anyone asks who did the calligraphy, the creator gets credit.  If anyone could help me with this, and perhaps scan it and send it to me, you will be my personal hero!

Arigato!

Version 1.0

It seems that my Bishie of the Day Post has become too long, and thus I have created "Version 2.0." I decided to move the first three Love Mode tribute posts to Version 2.0 for the sake of consistency. Since my Bishie of the Day Posts are going to continue growing, there will be several other versions. In fact, Version 3.0 has recently been created since the other again became too big.

The last Bishies of the Day for Version 1.0 were posted on November 24, 2006, and consist of Oshima Tsubaki, Oshima Tsumugi, Sei Yotsuri, and Touga from the manga Yononaka wa Bokura ni Amai (Spoiled Within our World) by Takaguchi Satosumi.

The Importance of Paying Attention, or Help!!!!!!! [Oct. 6th, 2006|05:12 am]
[mood | embarrassed]

This is the most idiotic problem ever, but I decided to humble myself and ask for help. While I was buying this shirt at a convention, the vendor told me what it said. However, I wasn't paying attention. I had completely zoned out, and basically smiled and nodded when he told me, but I didn't hear a word he said. I felt so stupid I couldn't go back and ask again. So now I have this shirt, and since I don't read kanji, I have no idea what it says. After you are all done laughing at me, could anyone help me out and tell me what this says?
